Street lights switch-off time challenged
The time when street lights are set to be switched-off at night should be put back in order to protect people using public transport, it is claimed.
Essex County Council hopes to turn out the lights in most roads across Epping Forest at midnight in order to save £1million a year.
But Buckhurst Hill Parish Council has asked for the time to be delayed until 30 minutes after the last Tube service has left the area’s Tube station.
This would be at 1.34am during the week.
Councillors also drew up a list of locations which should remain lit overnight, including various key road junctions and several footpaths.
The county council plans to switch off 70 percent of the district’s street lights between midnight and 5am, from December 1.
