Classic Travel in Loughton is continuing to grow after almost three decades on the high street
As many neighbouring businesses fear for the future, an independent travel company is celebrating its expansion.
Last week Classic Travel, in Loughton High Road, officially opened a bigger branch.
Run by husband and wife team Peter and Yvonne Holmes, the independent travel agents caters for all kinds of clients, from booking an Easy Jet flight to bespoke getaways on luxury islands.
Their speciality, however, is long trips with complex itineraries.
Mr Holmes, 59, says that the secret to survival on the high street is keeping up with what the customer wants.
He said: “Yvonne has been in the travel industry since leaving university. The shop set up in Loughton in 1984.
“We recently moved to bigger premises so that we can do more with the customers in the shop.
“It is vital to move with the times. The business is always changing and we have to make sure we keep up to date. We have a shiny new website and all of our staff are well travelled so that they can give the best advice.
“It’s important to remember that the customer is king.”
Eleanor Laing and Loughton Town Mayor, Jill Angold-Stephens, turned out to support the shop as it celebrated the move to the other end of High Road on September 10.
Mr Holmes says that he and wife Yvonne, 54, have no plans to abandon the high street anytime soon.
He said: “We are always evolving and always trying to deliver the best possible service.”
