A pensioner has been disqualified from driving after a hit and run involving a lollipop lady.

Roger Lee from Buckhurst Hill injured a school crossing patrol officer in April when he drove his Toyota Yaris straight over a crossing outside of St John’s Primary School.

In court, last week, Mr Lee had his license revoked for 90 days as well as being fined £305 for driving without due care and attention and failure to stop at the scene of an accident.

Crossing patrol officer Patricia Tepper was injured whilst on duty on Church Road outside of the school.

Lee’s prosecution comes as The RAC Foundation announces that there are more than 4 million drivers over the age of 70 in the UK.

Despite the announcement the Department for Transport is reported to have told the BBC that there is ‘no evidence’ that older drivers cause more accidents.

Lee, 74, of Little Plucketts Way, Buckhurst Hill had two other counts against him withdrawn, including failure to report the incident.

Essex County Council told the Guardian that the injuries sustained by the crossing patrol officer were not serious.
