Motorists overcharged for parking
Motorists have been overcharged by a pay-by-phone parking system, it has emerged.
North Essex Parking Partnership, which manages car parks across Essex, has admitted that five motorists using Traps Hill car park in Loughton will get refunds due to a discrepancy over the time when charges apply.
But the partnership has not revealed whether other locations using the MiPermit scheme were affected and the sums involved.
The problem is believed to have been caused when the MiPermit scheme was introduced at the end of last year and failed to take into account a variation in the time of day when charges start.
A total of 20 car parks in Epping Forest currently use the system.
A spokeswoman said: “The NEPP has arranged for MiPermit to refund all customers who have made an overpayment.”
The Guardian is awaiting futher details on how many areas were affected.
