Part of North Weald High Road was blocked when a car caught fire.
It happened at around 5.40pm on Saturday.
Fire-fighters from Epping spent just over half an hour tackling the blaze, which was outside a parade of shops.
A spokesman for the Essex Fire and Rescue Service said: "Crews wore breathing apparatus and used two hose reels to extinguish the fire".
