Husband and wife spared jail over 45k benefits fraud
Benefit fraudsters who said they had been the victims of identity theft claimed £45,000 in housing benefit.
Husband and wife, Denise Laws, 54, and Denis Archer, 58, pocketed the money between 1999 and 2009 for a property in Express Drive, Ilford.
As well as claiming they had been victims of identity theft, they also denied they were married when they were caught by Redbridge Council.
But both pleaded guilty and received jail sentences, suspended for 18 months.
Laws was also ordered to complete 150 hours of community service and Mr Archer was ordered to complete 250 hours.
