Neil Wilson, 40, of Romford admitted sexual activity with a 13-year-old
A paedophile found guilty of having sex with a 13-year-old girl has had his sentenced increased - in a case which saw a prosecuting barrister label the victim “predatory”.
Neil Wilson, 40, of Romford, received a suspended sentence after being convicted in August at Snaresbrook Crown Court of engaging in sexual activity with a child and possessing extreme pornography.
But following the controversy over comments made by Crown Prosecution Service barrister, Robert Colover, who also described the girl as “sexually experienced”, the Attorney General ordered a review of the punishment.
And today Wilson was sent to jail for two years.
Detective Inspector Simon Ellershaw, of the Sexual Offences, Exploitation and Child Abuse Command, welcomed the new sentence.
He said: "'It is unfortunate when some within the Criminal Justice System perpetuate the myth that vulnerable young people are in some way to blame for the sexual abuse that they suffer.
"The sentence passed today at The Royal Courts of Justice goes some way to redress this.
"I hope that this will give other victims the confidence to come forward.
"Neil Wilson is the only predator in this case - he took advantage of a girl who was extremely vulnerable in the worst way possible.''
Robert Colover is currently suspended from working on sexual offence cases.
