A member of staff at a mental health unit has been charged with helping a convicted killer escape from custody.

Lerone Boye, 27, was jailed for life in December for stabbing a 17-year-old boy to death at a birthday party in Ilford in 2011.

He absconded from the John Howard Centre in Homerton, Hackney, on 16 October and has still not been traced.

Dean Ablakwa, 29, from north London, is charged with conspiracy to assist an offender to escape and is due to appear at Thames Magistrates' Court later today.

Police are continuing to appeal for help in tracing Boye, but have warned the public not to approach him.

He is described as black, about 5ft 10ins and slim, with short black hair.

He has a scar on his right cheek, a goatee beard and a gold tooth in his upper row of teeth.

Boye was semtenced to a minimum of 28 years for stabbing Kelvin Chibueze at the Arteflex Club in Ilford.

He was chased and attacked with glass and broken bottles.
