The public has been told to expect severe weather conditions in the next 24 hours.

A storm is forcast to hit London and Essex on Monday morning.

The Met office has issued an amber warning of winds up to 80mph and widespread disruption is expected during rush hour.

The storm, named St Jude after the patron saint of depression and lost causes, is said to be currently developing in an area of low pressure in the Atlantic.

The south-west of England and parts of Wales are expected to be hit with heavy rainfall on Sunday night, with flooding likely.

A statement on the Mt Office website said: "There is still some uncertainty in the timing, intensity and track of the low.

"However, the public should be aware of the risk of damage to trees and structures, as well as the possibility of disruption to transport and power supplies."
