Regulars and staff at a pub which has been saved from closure have spoken of their delight that a buyer has stepped in.

The future of the Warren Wood pub in Epping New Road, Buckhurst Hill, was uncertain after its owners Bramwell Pubs went into administration.

But its future now looks secure after it became one of 78 sites that have been bought by Stonegate Pub Company in the last week.

Former Loughton resident, Linda Mitchell, 66, who now lives in Suffolk, has been visiting the pub for more than 10 years.

She said: “It is absolutely wonderful news that the pub will remain open. Mick (licensee) has always made us feel welcome and it’s the kind of place you walk in and immediately feel comfortable.”

Nicola Gibbs, 24, is a part-time member of staff and has worked at the pub for five years.
She said: “I was told only yesterday that my job was safe, so of course I’m overjoyed that it will remain open for business. This pub is very individualistic and unique and is an enjoyable place to work.

“I’m glad I’ve still got a job.”

Joseph McGuigan, 37, of Love Lane in Woodford Green, has been a regular drinker at the pub for many years.

He said: “It’s great news for us and for Mick. It would have been a disaster if it had closed because this place is full of characters and we wouldn’t have preferred to go anywhere else.”

Two other nearby pubs owned by Bramwell , The Travellers Friend in High Road, Woodford Green, and The Obelisk in Old Church Road, Chingford, remain on the market.
