All students travelling on a bus which crashed yesterday were wearing seatbelts at the time, a school has said.

Pupils from the Anglo European School in Ingatestone were travelling on the 620 bus from Ingatestone to Epping when it collided with a bus from a local commercial company in Epping Road, Coopersale, at 4.27pm.

One sixth form student from the school was kept in overnight at Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow with serious injuries.

Another pupils was taken to the same hospital but later released.

In a statement the Anglo European’s headteachers, Jill Martin and David Barrs, said: “It was a serious collision and our thoughts are with the driver of the other bus and his family.”

The school confirmed all students were wearing seatbelts, including two pupils who had been warned about not doing so only a week ago.

Students are being offered support by the school.

The driver of the commercial bus was flown to Addenbrookes Hospital with injuries thought to be life-changing.

The school bus is operated by First Group, which is expected to release a statement shortly.

The commercial bus is thought to have been operated by Olympian & SM Coaches Ltd, based in Harlow.
