A security firm has withdrawn its application to convert a former cinema and build a four-storey office block next door.

Total Security Services (TSS) has been asked by Waltham Forest Council planners to reconsider its design for the Regal building and adjacent former restaurant in Hale End Road, Highams Park.

A council spokesman said: “The applicant has agreed to withdraw the application and hold pre-application discussions before looking to resubmit.”

According to the planning officer, Maynaz Chowdhery, the plans were considered unsuitable for the location.

She said: "TSS withdrew the application on Monday, as we advised them that the overall size and style of the design was not in keeping with local area.

"We look to sit down with them and negotiate a scheme that will be accepted for its design."

Local businesses have welcomed plans to demolish the boarded-up former Shelz restaurant and convert the Regal to bring the empty buildings back into use and boost the economy.
