The number of robberies in Waltham Forest has fallen by a quarter in the last three years, police have revealed.

And while the number of murders, burglaries, and gun crimes has also dropped, violent attacks have risen in the last year, with nearly 100 reported a week on average.

Reported violence increased from 5,038 incidents to 5,071, while similar offences have fallen in London as a whole.

There has also been an increase in rapes, with 102 reported in the 12 months up to October, compared to 89 in the previous year.

Domestic violence increased significantly from 1,826 incidents in 2012 to 2,064 in 2013.

Robbery and burglary levels have fallen every year in the last three, with both offences falling below the London average in the borough for the first time.

Reported robbery is down 26 per cent during that period, while burglary has fallen by ten per cent.
