Three new CCTV cameras could form part of £120,000 bid to clear-up streets and tackle fly-tipping.

The initiative, proposed by Redbridge Council’s cabinet member for environment, Shoaib Patel, would be launched in Barkingside, Clayhall, Clementswood, Cranbrook, Fairlop and Valentines wards in Spring next year.

The CCTV would cost £30,000 and a further £90,000 spent on further cleaning streets in the six wards.

The proposals will be considered by the Environment Service Committee on December 4 and a decision is due to be made on or before December 10.

Cllr Patel said: “We tested the Big Clean Up concept in 2010 and 2011. By bringing together a team of cleansing, streetscene and enforcement staff and focusing on areas with particular problems, we can make a real difference to the local environment.

“The key to keeping these areas cleaner is for residents, community organisations and the council to work together to report and tackle problems as they arise.”
