Thames Water says it has no idea how long emergency work will take to fix a burst main in Walthamstow which has shut a main road.
Forest Road is currently shut to traffic in both directions between Castleton Road and Ulverston Road as the main, on the corner of Ulverston Road and Forest Road, is fixed.
A spokeswoman told the Guardian that engineers are still assessing the situation and that the work would still take "some time".
The 123 bus is on diversion.
Thames Water has so far been unable to provide any further information.
A spokeswoman said this morning that there was no option but to shut the road and apologised for the disruption.
