A group of Iraqi students and teachers have been learning important lessons on a trip to the district.

Nineteen school teachers and leaders from Davenant Foundation School’s partner in Babil visited Epping Forest, this month, to see how they can improve lessons in their own country.

The group spent time with pupils and staff at Davenant Foundation School, Theydon Bois, St John’s and Hereward Primary Schools. They observed lessons and watched youth sport leadership in action.

Davenant Foundation School was one of only five in the country to be selected to host a delegation by the British Council with the Youth Sport Trust.

Chris Seward, Headteacher said that it was important for pupils to meet with the teachers from Iraq.

He said: “We were delighted to welcome a delegation from our partner school. The programme has offered a unique opportunity for us both to contribute to the development of the Iraqi education system, and also to learn ourselves.

“The commitment of our Iraqi colleagues has been inspirational-their visit has enriched our school.”

Staff from Davenant in Loughton have also visited Iraq twice to provide advice and guidance to schools on improving PE teaching and empowering young people through school sport.

The school also released a teacher to deliver training to Iraqi PE teachers at their sister school.
