Stella Creasy has called a public meeting following a "flood of horror stories" about rogue landlords and letting agents.
The Walthamstow MP, supported by council cabinet member for housing Marie Pye, will host the event with action group 7days4stow.
Miss Creasy said: “Keeping a roof above your head is becoming increasingly difficult for many in Walthamstow due to rising rents and poor quality private housing, with some residents spending up to 60 or 70 per cent of their monthly income on accommodation costs alone.
“In the course of the last year the horror stories about the behaviour of letting agents and landlords have been flooding into my office and the 7days4stow campaigners have been working hard to gather evidence to help us name and shame the persistent offenders.”
Cllr Pye said the council is concerned about the continued growth in private rented accommodation and its links to antisocial behaviour.
The meeting will be held in central Walthamstow from 7pm on December 6.
Attendees are asked to RSVP by emailing ruby@workingforwalthamstow.org.uk or calling 020 8521 1223.
