Two designers from Walthamstow have been recognised for their ethical approach to fashion.

Couple Phil Scott, 36, and Andii Lindsay, 45, set up Cock & Bull Menswear boutique 18 months ago and say it was the UK’s first to be completely sustainable.

Following their desire to offer a range of designer clothes made entirely in the UK from environmentally-friendly materials, they began growing the brand by selling designs at Walthamstow Market.

The designers, who live in Vestry Road, are nominated in the menswear category of the SOURCE Awards, which will be handed out at the House of Lords on Tuesday.

Their goods, made from elements including Chinese hemp, Indian organic cotton and organic UK wool, range from underwear to Scottish hand-woven tweed flat hats.

Mr Scott said: “We are extremely honoured to be nominated for this.

“Who’d have thought we would progress so quickly from selling at pop-up events to being the go-to brand to provide ethical, British-made, affordable, premium clothing for free-thinking and imaginative gentlemen?”

Ms Lindsay said: “We think that as a commodity fashion should be produced in a safe way that doesn’t harm the environment or other people.

“People perfectly understand the benefits of organic food and we hope in a few years time the same will be said for fashion.”

Based in Cheshire Street, Shoreditch, the shop stocks their own menswear and showcases other sustainable and ethical menswear designers.

“From the sourcing of fabrics, linings and trimmings to the sewing of buttons and finishing touches, we are determined to offer the best quality product to our customers,” Mr Scott added.

“The popularity of our brand shows that more people are thinking of the sustainability of the planet and this can only be a good thing.”

SOURCE Awards organisers say the event puts the spotlight on best practice in the fashion industry.
