A school’s film club has recognised as the best of its kind in the country.
Wanstead High School in Redbridge Lane West was picked ahead of 7,000 clubs around the country which have registered with film education programme, FILMCLUB.
The club at Wanstead High, which launched in 2008, was chosen due to its dedication to running two weekly clubs using various resources to focus on filmmaking, script writing and copyright law as well as hosting special guests and filmmakers.
Visitors have included FILMCLUB founder Beeban Kidron and chair of the British Film Institute Greg Dyke, both of whom showed clips of their favourite films to pupils.
Teachers have also been getting involved and are currently hosting screenings featuring their favourite childhood films, which include Wayne’s World and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.
Assistant headteacher, Melanie Warner, said: “The excitement of our students who attended the awards event was really contagious and the impact winning has had is amazing.
The award ceremony took place earlier this month at Vue Cinema in Leicester Square.
