A blue plaque honouring a pioneering socialist has been unveiled in Walthamstow.
Pete Curran, the first Labour MP for Jarrow and celebrated trade union leader, lived in Walthamstow.
The blue plaque has been placed close to Pretoria Avenue, where Mr Curran once lived.
Curran died in 1910 at the age of 50. His former home was demolished to make way for Mission Grove Road.
On February 21 1910, over 10,000 mourners lined the streets from Pretoria Avenue in Walthamstow to the grounds of Leytonstone Cemetery.
Mr Curran's great grandson, Graham Reeve, 66, of The Avenue in Highams Park, was at the official unveiling on Friday.
He said: "I was very keen to have a lasting memory of one of the early pioneers of the Labour and Trade Union Movement."
