A controversial plan for a 34-metre high development including a Morrisons supermarket and 250 flats has been approved.

The council’s planning committee last night gave the green light to the proposal for South Grove in Walthamstow.

Critics of the plans say independent traders in Walthamstow Market will suffer and the development is too large and poorly designed.

Morrisons said the development will create 450 new jobs.

The supermarket giant said it typically employs 75 per cent of staff from local communities.
