As Epping Forest District Museum is set for big changes, photographs of just how much a high street has been transformed over decades have emerged from its collection.

This week the museum, which is currently going through a refurbishment, gave The Guardian a the opportunity to see photographs of Epping from as early as 1900.

From Children posing next to the memorial statue, to a horse drawn carriage being pulled down the wide road, it is easy to see just how much the high road has changed with technology and a growing population.

The road looks almost empty on most occasions - until Winston Churchill came to town.

From the Victoria Building in the centre of the High Road, the former Prime Minister addressed thousands below who had crammed into the road following his electoral victory on November 15, 1935.

Now, filled with cars, parking bays and busy with pedestrians, the high street could not be more different.

However, with the museum collection which will return to Sun Street next year, we can always take a look at just how far it has come.
