A Christmas event will still go-ahead this weekend despite ongoing work to replace paving in a plaza.
Some traders hoping for a boost in customers were concerned that the work would lead to the event in Albert Crescent being postponed.
But the council, which has organised events across the borough in an attempt to boost trade, has promised the event will take place on Saturday.
Carol singers will perform while a Christmas tree will be installed and lights switched on.
