The flag at waltham Forest Town hall is flying at half-mast in honour of Nelson Mandela.
The 95-year-old, who was imprisoned for 27 years by the apartheid regime in South Africa, died yesterday.
Councillors have been paying tribute on Twitter this morning.
The Leytonstone ward councillors published a picture of the flag with a message saying: “Waltham Forest Flag @ half mast in respect of the passing of the international legend Nelson Mandela- RIP.”
Hale End and Highams Park ward councillor, Darshan Sunger, tweeted the famous Madela quote: “Everyone can rise above their circumstances and achieve success if they are dedicated to and passionate about what they do #NelsonMandela.”
