Residents are asked to share their experiences of domestic violence services in effort to improve victim support following a 18 per cent rise in cases.

Feedback will be used to improve police and council policy in Redbridge and increase further the number of people reporting violence and seeking help.

The domestic violence 'one-stop shop' has recently moved in an attempt to create easier access and now operates from Vine Church Community Hall in Riches Road, Ilford, every Friday from 10am to 12pm.

An example given was a woman who had suffered long-term abuse, but had never reported it.

Support given led to an appointment with the housing advice centre and the victim was able to seek legal advice and obtain a non-molestation order.

She was placed in temporary accommodation and continued to receive support and counselling to build self-esteem.

Ward Cllr Alex Wilson said: “There is a lot of support for victims of domestic violence but we are always looking for ways to improve and to make sure residents know what is available.

“Domestic violence is a seriously under-reported crime and while we know reports have increased we would expect further increase as access to support is improved.

“However we will continue to work with the police and other organisations to provide support for victims.

“We would ask anyone who has received support from any organisation about domestic violence to complete the survey to help get a picture of how effective services are and any improvements we can make.”
