A school deemed to be failing by inspectors has achieved the biggest improvement in results in Redbridge.

Snaresbrook Primary School, in Meadow Walk, South Woodford has seen 87 per cent of pupils achieve the national requirement of Level 4 or above in reading, writing and maths - an 11 per cent improvement on last year.

The school was placed in special measures by Ofsted in June and looked set to be turned into an academy in line with government policy.

Parents, supported by Redbridge Council, campaigned against the move, claiming measures were already in place to address failings.

now under new management, the school has been placed fourth in the borough for test results and the Department for Education's (DfE) proposal has been dropped.

The DfE’s primary school statistics, released on Thursday, show that results for Redbridge are three per cent above the national average at 78 per cent.

Redbridge Primary School, in College Gardens, Ilford, topped the table with 93 per cent, with 100 per cent of pupils making expected progress in reading.

However Uphall Primary School, in Uphall Road, Ilford, dropped from 83 per cent to 70 per cent, and Wanstead Church School, in Church Path, Wanstead, fell from 86 per cent to 73 per cent - both falling below the national average.
