A man charged with attacking a 70-year-old man in front of his family has been remanded on unconditional bail.
Raymond West, 49, of Chigwell Road, Woodford Green, is accused of assaulting George Douglas, 70, on board a train from Southend Victoria to Shenfield on August 23.
Police later issued a public appeal showing a CCTV image of the suspect wearing a West Ham United shirt.
Mr West was charged with one offence for using threatening or abusive language or threatening behaviour and one count of common assault, which was today dropped in favour of one count of assault by beating.
Mr West will appear at Barkingside Magistrates' Court on April 4.
