A man has been found guilty for the fatal stabbing of a motorist in 2005.

Jason Moore, 43, of no fixed abode, was found guilty yesterday at the Old Bailey of the murder of 42-year-old Robert Darby, who was discovered in Gants Hill with stab injuries on August 24 2005.

Mr Darby, of Byng Street, Isle of Dogs, was taken to the Royal London Hospital with a stab wound to the chest and pronounced dead the following day.

Mr Darby was driving in a black BMW in the Gants Hill area when he met Mr Moore and another man.

The three men, who were all known to each other, became involved in an altercation by the side of the road before Mr Darby was stabbed.

Police were called to Perth Road in Gants Hill at around midnight following reports of an injured man.

Mr Moore fled from the UK to Spain that day and then to Dubai before being arrested on his return to the UK in October 2012.

He is due to be sentenced on Monday.

Detective Inspector Andy Jones, said: "Despite the passage of time, Moore has today been found guilty of a murder he committed eight years ago.

"This conviction should stand as a stark reminder that we will pursue anyone who commits a violent crime."
