A grandfather who is featured in a Christmas TV advert dancing in the kitchen says he is now being recognised by strangers in the street.

Roy and Bernie Street, of Loughton Lane in Theydon Bois, who are both in their seventies, star in a Sainsbury's advert which is on heavy rotation during the festive period.

Their daughter Gayle submitted a mobile phone clip of Mr Street dancing on Christmas Day last year as his wife washes up following an appeal by the supermarket chain for footage.

Mr Street said: “I’ve been recognised a few times from it.

“A woman asked me to dance with her in the butcher’s the other day.”

The grandfather-of-two only realised he would be seen dancing in the advert when he attended a showing at the British Academy of Film and Television in November.

“I thought it would be photos on the screen so it was a bit of a shock,” he said.

Recalling the moment Mrs Street said: “I remember when he started dancing I just said ‘Oh bloody hell’”.

“I don’t know what they found funniest, his dancing or my comments.”

The couple recreated the scene fron the advert in their home.
