West Ham defender James Tomkins has been charged with assaulting a police officer.
The 24-year-old was refused entry at the Sugar Hut Village in Brentwood early on Sunday and police were called by security staff.
Tomkins is said to have been taken into custody after a struggle and charged with assault, resisting arrest and being drunk.
He is due to appear at Basildon Magistrates' Court on January 9.
Earlier in the day he had played in West Ham’s defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford.
A police spokesman said: "Officers were called by security staff from the Sugar Hut Village shortly before 00:30 GMT on Sunday following reports of a disturbance."
Tompkins was released on police bail until his court appearance.
