Trunk size restriction on Christmas tree recycling

East London and West Essex Guardian Series: Christmas trees must be no wider than 10cm and no taller than 122cm for collection Christmas trees must be no wider than 10cm and no taller than 122cm for collection

Christmas trees with trunks more than 10cm wide will not be collected by Redbridge Council's recycling service.

Last year households could call the authority to arrange for all trees to be collected, but under the new weekly garden waste collection service a severe size restriction has been imposed.

Any trees wider than 10cm and taller than 128cm will not be disposed of, with people being asked to break the trees up.

People can also take their trees to Chigwell Road Re-use and Recycling Centre in Woodford Bridge.

I'd like to see a tree that us no more than 10cm (4 inches) wide.! Are you talking about the trunk or the whole tree?

Just about the only thing that Redbridge recycles well is cabinet members.

This is what is actually posted on the Redbridge website "As garden waste collections continue throughout the year, please recycle your Christmas tree via our garden waste service. Residents who wish Christmas trees to be collected as part of theis service should ensure that the trunk of the tree does not exceed 10cm in diameter and 122cm/4ft in length. If the tree is bigger it will need to be reduced in size. This is so that it can fit inside the collection vehicle." I don't see anyone reasonable having a problem with this, but then it wouldn't make such an exciting article for the Guardian if it was reported accurately would it?
