Christmas trees with trunks more than 10cm wide will not be collected by Redbridge Council's recycling service.
Last year households could call the authority to arrange for all trees to be collected, but under the new weekly garden waste collection service a severe size restriction has been imposed.
Any trees wider than 10cm and taller than 128cm will not be disposed of, with people being asked to break the trees up.
People can also take their trees to Chigwell Road Re-use and Recycling Centre in Woodford Bridge.
