Rubbish chute fire on estate

East London and West Essex Guardian Series: Blenheim Court. Blenheim Court.

A rubbish chute at a tower block caught fire yesterday.

The Fire Brigade was called to Blenheim Court block on the Orchard Estate in Woodford Green at 8pm yesterday.

Some of the flats were affected by smoke but the blaze was dealt with within 13 minutes of initial reports.

Bariş Yerli, a student who lives on the eighth floor of Blenheim Court, saw the burned chute when he returned home yesterday evening.

He said: “There was a lot of smoke. My parents had put rags around the door. They had sealed the whole flat.

“It’s just lucky it was not in one of our neighbours’ flats.”

This fire follows a much larger blaze at the Orchard Estate in September last year which destroyed a corner of the Liston Way block.
