A temporary swimming pool will open to the public next week.

The 12-metre pool, used for training during 2012 Olympics, is being erected on the grounds of Wanstead Leisure Centre car park in Redbridge Lane West.

The heated pool will open to the public next week for 12 weeks.

Council leader Keith Prince said: "The opening of the pool was planned for this week but has been delayed by a week because the marquee-type roof structure was unable to be fitted due to high winds.

"We have delivered the temporary pool, this will go a long way to reducing the numbers on the waiting list who wish to learn to swim."

Opening times on Monday to Friday are 10am -7pm, and 9am to 1pm on Saturdays.

Sessions will cost £2 per person and the money will be paid to Amateur Swimming Association, the company providing instructors and lifeguard cover.

As part of the London Mayor's Olympic Legacy Initiative, City Hall has provided an undisclosed subsidy towards the project, which has cost Redbridge Council £30,000.
