Mark Duggan was lawfully killed despite not having a gun in his hand when he was shot by police, an inquest jury has found.

A majority of eight jurors to two found police were acting legally when they fatally shot the 29-year-old in August 2011 in Ferry lane, Tottenham, yards from the border with Walthamstow.

However, jurors at the Royal Court of Justice today also found he was not holding a gun at the time, and had probably discarded it before the taxi he was travelling in was stopped by police.

A gun was later found 20ft away from where he was killed.

Kevin Hutchison was last year convicted of supplying Mr Duggan with a gun in Leyton on the day he was killed.

Mr Duggan’s killing sparked riots in Tottenham which spread across London and other English cities.
