The Royal Mail has announced its intention to move operations at two of its delivery offices to a new site by the end of the year.
The company says a plan to move staff from Woodford Green and Loughton to Debden has been devised due to an increase in the number of parcels comapred to letters, meaning the existing sites are no longer fit for purpose.
The lease on the existing building in Woodford Green is also due to expire soon.
The new site is expected to be at the British Postal Museum and Archive in Imprimo Park, Debden.
There are currently 147 people employed across the delivery offices, but Royal Mail claimed no jobs would be affected.
It is expected that the move will help to provide improved onsite car parking for Royal Mail vehicles and better customer parking.
A Royal Mail spokesman said: “Yesterday’s announcement begins a period of consultation by Royal Mail with its people and trade unions.
“This will be shared with our colleagues who will be given every opportunity to provide input.
“The review is aimed at allowing us to deliver the most efficient, consistent and reliable service to Royal Mail customers and help secure long term employment and job security.”
The Royal Mail maintains that no disruption will be caused by the move.
The Guardian is awaiting further comment from the Royal Mail.
