A student has described how she cried with happiness for an hour after being offered a place at Oxford University.
Emma Hughes, who attends Trinity Catholic High School in Mornington Road, Woodford Green, will study Earth Sciences at Exeter College, Oxford, if she achieves the required A-level grades of all As or A*s.
She said: “I was crying for about an hour when I found out. I was home alone so I was just sitting at my kitchen table by myself.
“I was so shocked when I found out because my interview went really badly – my family had been preparing me for the worst.
“We didn’t really do a lot of interview preparation as the school said this would make the interviews more contrived. They just said be yourself.”
Three other Trinity pupils have been offered places at Oxbridge.
Luke Marrai, 18, was offered a place at Churchill College, Cambridge, to study mathematics.
Lee Murray, 17, has won a place at Oxford Faculty of Medicine to study medicine and will be the first person in his family to ever go to university.
Lewis Scott, 17, was given an open college offer to Oxford, to study Law.
He is also the first person in his family to go to university.
