A man has been jailed for 13 years for beating a pawnbroker and stealing £90,000 of gold and jewellery from his shop.

Lithuanian Adrej Perevalov, 43, of Leyton, was sentenced on Wednesday at Snaresbrook Crown Court.

On November 23 2012, two men entered Capital Gold Jewellers and Pawnbrokers in High Street, Walthamstow, at 1pm.

They asked to see a tray of silver rings from a display under the counter, but as the shop owner bent down to retrieve the items he was punched in the head.

When the 60-year-old fell to the ground, the two men then jumped over the counter and repeatedly kicked and punched him on the floor.

He was then dragged around and forced to open two safes while, what the victim believed was a knife, was pointed into his back.

The suspects left with gold and jewellery worth around £90,000.

The shopkeeper was left with serious head, leg and arm injuries and has been unable to work since the incident, forcing him to permanently close his shop.

A police investigation uncovered Mr Perevalov's DNA on a rucksack left at the crime scene.

On the February 27 police arrested Mr Perevalov at an address in Station Road, Forest Gate.

The second suspect has yet to be traced.

No address permanent addres has been supplied for Mr Perevalov.
