Police have identified a woman who was found dead in the River Roding on Sunday morning.

Lucille Melanie Sanders, also know as Lucille Melanie Espinoza, 61, who is from Redbridge, was discovered shortly after 9am on Sunday by passers-by and is thought to have committed suicide.

A post-mortem examination took place today at East Ham Mortuary but no formal cause of death has been given at this stage.

Police await the results of further tests.

It is believed Mrs Sanders went into the river near Chigwell Road, Woodford Green, two miles away from where her body was found near Ilford Golf Course.

Police had been notified by a health worker that Mrs Sanders was missing and there was concern for her welfare.

An inquest opened and adjourned today at Waltham Forest Coroner's Court and enquiries into the incident continue.

The family have been informed.

This is dreadful and is the second such case in recent times involving woman with mental health issues. Very sad.

Unfortunately these people do not get the required help. The CMHT (Community Mental Heath Teams) are so short staffed and are happy to overlook genuine issues hopping nothing will happen. They should be held more accountable.
