A man says he is “gutted” after the motor scooter he relies on for his livelihood was torched by arsonists.

Colin Scott, of Edward Road in Walthamstow, was woken by police at 2.30am on Tuesday morning who told him his 125cc Peugeot was found nearby in Courtenay Street.

The 125cc Peugeot, which Mr Scott relies on to get to work in Islington, had been set alight and completely incinerated.

“I’m gutted, that was my livelihood going backwards and forwards from work,” the 53-year-old glazer said.

“I was doing so well with the bike every morning this has mucked me up big time.

“It was only two years old.”

Police were called to the scene just before 1.30am on Tuesday.

Officers are investigating and the incident is being treated as arson.

No arrests have been made.

Mr Scott said he thinks the suspects, who had intended to steal the scooter, dragged it from where it was parked in front of his house.

He added: “They must have dragged it because it had a chain, a padlock and a steering lock on it – a good, security approved chain and padlock, a really, really tough one.

“I think they couldn’t get the chain off and decided to burn it out.

“Police couldn’t take forensics because it’s like a skeleton basically.”

The bike was insured.
