The number of fires in Waltham Forest and Redbridge have fallen by more than two-thirds since records began a decade ago.

According to new figures released by the London Fire Brigade today, there were 1,772 fires in Waltham Forest in 2003/4, compared to 614 in 2012/13 resulting in a 68 per cent reduction.

Redbridge saw 1,673 fires in 2003/4 compared with 528 last year.

The number of fires in London has fallen by a quarter in the last year and by 64 per cent over the last 10 years.

and that's the problem when you go by statistics. The number of fires is unimportant in a sense, the important thing is the response time.

Shutting down fire stations reduces the response time and increases the likelihood of fatalities or injuries. Cutting engines in an ordered way I can see the sense in, but shutting stations, just madness.
