Investigations continue into the discovery of a man’s body after a fire in a derelict sports pavilion in Leyton in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Neither the police nor the fire service could provide extra information this morning about the cause of death or the cause of the fire.

A police spokesman said an “open mind” is being maintained as to whether the death was suspicious or not.

The unused building is between Ive Farm Close and Villiers Close.

Police are still carrying out forensic work at the scene and await a post-mortem, for which a date has not yet been set.

The man was confirmed dead at the scene.

Firefighters were called to the blaze just before midnight on Friday and had the fire under control by 2am.
