An arson investigation has been launched following the arrest of a person in connection with a fire.

A woman, believed to be in her 20s, was rescued from the window of a second floor flat in Gardner Close, Wanstead, on Saturday by firefighters.

The blaze tore through the flat just after 5pm, but was under control by 6.10pm.

Police have released no further details on the person arrested on Saturday on suspicion of arson. 

The woman was treated for non-life threatening injuries and smoke inhalation and taken to Whipps Cross Hospital in Leytonstone.

The Guardian is awaiting further information on the arrest.
