Motorists have been targeted by police for mis-using disabled parking badges.

Officers from Chingford Green safer neighbourhood team (SNT) and Waltham Forest council's enforcement team carried out the operation yesterday to combat the wrongful display of blue badges.

The patrol along Station Road in Chingford  resulted in over 50 vehicles being checked and three badges being seized for mis-use.

All three drivers were reported for the offence after they were found to be displaying badges that belonged to family members.

They now face a fine and will be called to the council enforcement office with the blue-badge holderto explain the use of the badge and be re-assessed.

Chingford Green SNT police officer Darren Brand said: "This kind of operation greatly assists our work on Chingford Green ward in combating car crime and anti social behaviour in general of which blue badge misuse is a big part."

"It also reassures genuine blue badge users and helps with local parking issues which in turn assists local residents and shopkeepers to go about their business more efficiently.

"We will continue to work closely with the council on blue badge misuse."
