A planned 48 hour tube strike will start this evening after talks to end the strike collapsed yesterday.

As of 9pm today, members of the Maritime and Transport (RMT) Union and the Transport Salaried Staff Union (TSSA) will walk out over plans to close all tickets offices on the London Underground.

All underground lines will be affected and some lines will offer no service or a heavily reduced service from 9pm tonight until Friday morning.

TfL is advising customers to complete their journeys as early as possible today.

The Central line will not operate a service through the central area. Trains to and from Leytonstone to Epping are expected every twelve minutes.

The Victoria line will not run from Walthamstow but will start from Seven Sisters and go to Victoria.

The DLR and London Overground will not be affected.

During yesterday's meeting between RMT general secretary Bob Crow, other union leaders and London Mayor Boris Johnson, it was agreed strikes would be suspended if ticket office closures were put on hold.

People are being advised to top up their Oyster card in advance and consider other modes of transport including bus travel and cycling.

A second 48 hour tube strike is planned for January 11. Talks may resume between union leaders and the mayor today.
