Transportation company Bombardier has won a £1 billion contract to provide trains for the Crossrail project, which will travel through parts of Redbridge.

The company will provide 65 trains for the service, which is set to travel through Ilford, Seven Kings, Goodmayes and Chadwell Heath stations through to Shenfield.

Bombardier’s new contract is set to provide 760 jobs and boost the UK economy, according to the government.

Each new train will be 200 metres long and be able to take up to 1,500 passengers.

The £14.8 billion Crossrail service is set to open in 2018, with works already under way on platform extensions, allowing longer, higher capacity trains to run through.

Infrastructure improvements, including turn-back facilities, will also be introduced.

The service will stretch from Maidenhead and Heathrow in the west, to Shenfield and Abbey Wood in the east, covering over 60 miles of track.
