Flood alerts are still in place ahead of more heavy rainfall forecast for the rest of the week.

Homeowners in Abridge, Buckhurst Hill and Loughton living close to the River Roding are still being advised to prepare for flooding, with downpours expected tomorrow and Wednesday, followed by further showers in the rest of the week.

Alerts in Ongar and Fyfield are no longer in place.

However surface flooding could remain and take a while to drain due to low lying land being saturated.

Charles Portou, flood warden for Lambourne Parish council, which covers Abridge, said: “I’ve never seen Abridge under so much water.

“Driving through Abridge was like driving through the Lake District, there were swans swimming on the flood plain.

“Had it continued to rain over the weekend, there would have been significant flooding to property.”
