A three-year ASBO handed to a violent street drinker who police claim brought “misery” to the people of Waltham Forest has been welcomed by residents and park wardens.

Arunos Gincauskas, 32, of no fixed abode, was last week banned from entering Coronation Gardens in High Road, Leyton, after admitting disorderly conduct.

According to police, he urinated on flowers in full view of a mother and her two young children on January 19.

Gincauskas is then said to have become abusive towards council staff who approached him and attempted to make him stop.

He now faces prison if he breaks the terms of the ASBO.

Park keepers Tunde Akanwo said he hopes the order will help efforts by him and colleagues to deal with problem visitors.

He said: “There isn’t a lot we can do about it so I think it’s good that he has been given a three year ASBO. People like that often get aggressive as well when you confront them.

“It isn’t very nice for anyone when you see people acting like that.

“I saw him yesterday morning outside the park but he didn’t come in.”

His colleague Orrett Brown said: “It is a good thing that he can’t come in anymore, there are a lot of people that come in and behave like that, so hopefully this will put them off.”

Lyn Franklin, 64, of Goldsmith Road, Leyton, uses the gardens to walk her dog.

She said: “People use the garden as a toilet and a drinking hole every day – it’s horrible to see. I am glad they are making an example.”

Paul Ryan, 74, of Windsor Road, Leyton, does not believe the order will make a difference.

He said: “I have never seen him in the garden but I have seen others being drunk, sometimes around 14 or 15 of them.

“It’s good that they have given him an ASBO but there are so many others, I think it’s always going to be a problem.”
