A multi-faith event which is in its twelfth year has raised an estimated £10,000 for charity.
Taal, a two-day event combining drama, music and dance, is organised yearly by the Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist and Muslim Society (HSBMS) at Bancroft’s School, in High Road, Woodford Green.
A play, written by Year 13 pupils Nicole Hayes and Abiya Ahmed, was performed at the event.
Taal, meaning rhythm of life, aims to give pupils from all faiths and cultures a chance to take responsibility for part of the running of a large event while raising money for charity.
The event was held on Friday and Saturday, when audience members were given a full dinner and Indian snacks.
A school spokeswoman said: “Weeks and late nights dedicated to rehearsals really paid dividends as the cast played to sell out audiences. It was gratifying to see all their hard work so richly rewarded.”
Year 13 pupil Abiya Ahmed, co-writer and director said: “Taal aims to raise money for a variety of charities helping people less fortunate than ourselves to achieve a better quality of life.”
Inthujan Thankarajah, also Year 13, added: “The show has become an important part of our school community and life.”
The event’s chosen charities were UNCHR Syria Crisis Appeal, One Wish Foundation and Ocean Stars Trust.
