A woman who was reported to have fallen from a footbridge earlier this afternoon has died.

Police and ambulance services were called to the footbridge on the A406 North Circular near the Billet Road roundabout in Walthamstow at 2.30pm.

Is it not known as this stage if the woman, believed to be on her own, jumped from the bridge.

The incident, attended by London Air Ambulance, happened near Cabinet Way in Chingford.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, and next of kin have been informed.

Police have not released the age of the woman. The A406 North Circular westbound remains closed and traffic is queing in both directions.

The eastbound section re-opened shortly before 4pm. Traffic is congested on the A12 westbound at the Redbridge roundabout to Colney Hatch Lane.
